The Skills of Active Rest and Recovery for Midlife

Active rest and restoration

Active Rest means engaging your body and nervous system in deliberate, low-effort practices — restorative yoga, yoga nidra, slow breathing, gentle grounding — rather than simply stopping activity and hoping recovery happens on its own. It's the difference between collapsing on the couch and intentionally guiding your body into its recovery state: still passive enough to require no strength or performance, but structured enough to actually shift your physiology toward repair.
